Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has clarified that its recently announced global vehicle recall does not apply to Sri Lanka, assuring local customers that no BYD models currently operating in the country are affected.

The global recall involves approximately 115,000 BYD Tang and Yuan Pro vehicles, a move the company says aligns with its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and product quality.

In a statement, BYD confirmed that the recall is specific to certain BYD Tang vehicles manufactured between 28 March 2015 and 28 July 2017, and specific Yuan Pro pure electric vehicles produced between 6 February 2021 and 5 August 2022. The company emphasised that these particular models were neither introduced nor sold in the Sri Lankan market.

All BYD vehicles in Sri Lanka are exclusively imported, distributed, and serviced by the brand's authorised distributor, John Keells CG Auto (Pvt) Ltd.

The company stressed that locally sold vehicles are backed by comprehensive manufacturer warranties and supported by dedicated after-sales facilities staffed by NEV-trained technicians, ensuring the highest standards of service and care.

"BYD remains committed to transparent communication, responsible action, and the safety of all customers worldwide," the statement concluded, reaffirming the company's mission to deliver advanced, reliable, and sustainable mobility solutions.
