The former President and leader of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, Mahinda Rajapaksa, participated in the meritorious opening ceremony of the newly constructed Sankassapura Sri Sambuddharaja Maha Vihara Shrine at the Sri Buddhasiri Maha Vihara in Moragolla, Beruwala.
Following the ceremony, a statement was posted on his X account:
He was honored to be a part of the meritorious deed, which was held under the patronage of the Most Venerable Chief Prelate of the Sri Lanka Amarapura Mulavanshika Maha Nikaya. The temple was built following a concept by the Chief Incumbent of the Sri Buddhasiri Maha Vihara, Venerable Moragalle Ariyawimala Tissa Thera.
He believes that safeguarding and ensuring the continuous existence of Buddhism has always been his foremost duty.
He expressed his deepest respect and gratitude to the Chief Incumbent and the Maha Sangha of the Beruwala, Moragolla Sri Buddhasiri Maha Vihara, who spearheaded the work for the great Shrine.
He also extended his honorable thanks to all the devotees and residents of the Moragolla Maha Vihara, Beruwala, and everyone who contributed to the endeavor.
The former President used the opportunity to pay his respects to all the artists and craftsmen involved in the highly ornate construction of the Sankassapura Sri Sambuddharaja Maha Vihara Mandiraya.
