The colourful and inspiring life story of one of Sri Lanka’s most respected and beloved musical legends, Milton Mallawarachchi, is set to be brought to the silver screen, with production of a feature film now officially underway. It will be named as Eda Ra.

Popularly known simply as Milton, the late maestro remains a towering figure in Sri Lankan music history. Over a celebrated career spanning decade, he performed more than 850 songs, released over 35 albums, and composed music for many of his own recordings. Beyond his vocal brilliance, he was also a highly skilled tabla and sitar player and made a lasting contribution as a film playback singer, shaping the sound of Sinhala cinema across generations.

The biographical film is being produced by One Line Production & Entertainment Limited and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Aruna Jayawardane. The project aims to present an authentic and emotionally rich portrayal of Milton Mallawarachchi’s personal journey, artistic struggles, and enduring legacy.

The Muhurath ceremony marking the official launch of the production will be held on 20 January 2026 in the morning at the Nawaloka Banquet Hall, 14th Floor, Nawaloka Hospital, Colombo 02. The announcement was made by Milton’s son Ranil Mallawarachchi, along with Dr. Arosha Fernando, Chairman, and Chamaka Manjula, Director of the production.

Speaking at the announcement, Dr. Arosha Fernando said the film would faithfully reflect the true life story of Milton Mallawarachchi, expressing confidence that it would receive a strong and emotional response from audiences.

The producers are hopeful of replicating the success of last year’s biographical film on Clarence Wijewardane, which was both a critical and commercial hit, reaffirming the public’s strong appetite for films celebrating Sri Lanka’s musical legends.
