A Police Constable was interdicted today (17) following accusations of attempting to sit on the lap of a Woman Police Constable at the Makalugaswewa Police Station and being intoxicated during duty hours.

The interdicted PC was deployed for duty at a musical show held at the Dambulla Gam Udawa stadium on July 15, and arrived back at the Makalugaswewa Police Station to report for duty after completing the deployment.

The suspect officer spotted a WPC sitting on a chair at the police station, approached her, and attempted to sit on her lap.

Deeply inconvenienced by this inappropriate behaviour, the female police officer took immediate action to officially complain regarding the matter to the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in charge of the area through the Makalugaswewa Inspector of Police.

An investigation commenced immediately under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Police based on the received complaint, which revealed that the relevant PC was heavily intoxicated at the time.

Accordingly, following a preliminary investigation conducted under charges of attempting to harass a female police officer and breaching police discipline by behaving under the influence of liquor during duty, the Assistant Superintendent of Police ordered the interdiction of the relevant police constable effective from today.
