United National Party (UNP) Kegalle District MP Sandith Samarasinghe has been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital (CNH) with injuries during an altercation with parliamentarians of the Opposition a short while ago.
According to the reports, the UNP MP is undergoing several tests including X-Ray scans for internal injuries.
Hiru news correspondent said a tense situation prevailed within the chamber when Minister of Regional Development Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka addressed the house on the recent changes to the security detail of former President cum Kurunegala District MP Mahinda Rajapaksa.
According to our reporter from the chamber MP Samarasinghe was assaulted by a group of MPs representing the so called joint opposition.
Speaker Karu Jayasuriya called for an inquiry into the clash between some MPs in the Parliamentary Chamber following the incident.
The speaker adjourned the Parliament until 1.00 p.m. tomorrow following the clash of MPs at today’s session.
