Security officers with arms to be deployed for railway commuters’ protection

The Railway Department has decided to deploy security officers with arms for the protection of commuters and to arrest individuals causing damages to the property by hurling stones.

Expressing his views to our news team, Superintendent of the Railway Protection Force Anura Premaratne noted that they will take measures to deploy 200 security officers per one train round.

Meanwhile, Police noted that the 4 youths who were arrested over hurling stones to a train near Union Place railway station, are further detained for questioning.

A train plying from Panadura to Colombo Fort came under attack while passing between Bambalapitiya and Colpetty.

Investigations revealed that the assailants were a group of youths engaged in fishing activities.

However, Superintendent of the Railway Protection Force Anura Premaratne noted that the police officers will also be deployed for the protection of the commuters, under the instructions of the IGP.
