Three women have filed additional complaints with the Kurunegala teaching hospital administrative authority against the doctor serving in the gynaecologist and obstetrician unit attached to the Kurunegala teaching hospital, who was arrested owing to several allegations.
When our news team inquired into the matter, the director of the Kurunegala teaching hospital, Dr. Sarath Weerabandara noted that previously two women had lodged complaints against the doctor, and accordingly statements had been obtained from all five of them.
Dr. Seigu Siyabdeen Mohammed Safi of the Kurunegala hospital was arrested on the 24th of May for acquiring assets through suspicious means.
This was at his residence along the Kurunegala- Kandy road.
He was later handed over to the CID for further investigations.
The 42 year old had been serving as a gynecologist and obstetrician in three hospitals for over 13 years.
A national newspaper had reported recently about a doctor responsible for carrying out sterilization procedures during cesarean surgeries on 4000 mothers, and according to this report, revelations regarding the individual were made.
Police media spokesperson, SP Ruwan Gunasekera attending a media briefing yesterday noted that if there are complaints against the respective doctor, it should be submitted to the CID.
Meanwhile, the hospital administrative authority has also commenced an investigation into the allegations against the doctor.
