Illegal beedi factory raided

The Excise Department has raided an illegal beedi factory operating without a licence in Matale.

Excise Media Spokesperson Excise Commissioner Kapila Kumarasinghe stated that two suspects were also arrested during the raid.

Meanwhile, 150,000 beedis produced illegally and 100 kilograms of beedi wrapping leaves and cut tobacco were also recovered at the location.

Although it is mandatory to obtain a licence from the Excise Department for the production of beedi, further investigations have revealed that they were running this business for some time without obtaining a licence.
