A cargo plane belonging to Turkish Airlines has met with an accident at Katunayake Airport last night (06).
Hiru reporter at the airport stated that an A330 Airbus type cargo plane has been involved in an accident.
The accident took place when a container that was to be loaded to the plane, which was about to depart from Katunayake Airport for Istanbul, Turkey, crashed on to the plane's engine number 2.
There was strong wind around the airport last night.
However, an investigation has commenced to determine whether the accident occurred due to the failure of the airport operators to apply the brakes properly.
It is reported that the cargo plane belonging to the Turkish Airlines, which was involved in the accident, is still parked at the Katunayake airport.
