Online Safety (Amendment) Bill - Gazette issued

The Online Safety (Amendment) Bill has been officially published in the government gazette. This bill has sparked significant debate, with concerns raised about its potential to limit freedom of expression and violate constitutional rights.

To address these concerns, the Cabinet approved a draft amendment to the Security of Online Methods Act No. 9 of 2024 of February 12, 2024. 

The Cabinet of Ministers had approved the proposal forwarded by the Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles to publish the said draft bill in the government gazette and to present the same to the Parliament.

On July 23, 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the publication of the revised bill and its subsequent tabling in Parliament.
