The historic Ruhunu Kataragama Esala Maha Perahera is set to commence today (26).
The perahera ceremonies will continue until July 10, with the Water Cutting ceremony scheduled for the following day.
Police Headquarters announced that 1,050 police officers have been deployed to ensure the safety of devotees and manage traffic flow during the festival.
In addition, support from the tri-forces has been enlisted for the security and welfare of devotees undertaking the foot pilgrimage through the Yala Sanctuary to attend the perahera.
