Following the recent local government elections, the National People's Power (NPP) has significantly expanded its control, now leading 213 local government bodies across Sri Lanka.
This includes securing control in 59 councils where no single party achieved an outright majority.
The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has successfully formed councils in 28 local government bodies, bringing their total to 30.
The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has established power in four local authorities, while the United National Party (UNP) has yet to form a council in any local government body.
Among other parties, the Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi has formed 19 authorities, while the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress and the Lanka Workers' Congress have formed four and three, respectively.
The Pivithuru Hela Urumaya claimed power in two bodies.
Despite these formations, eight local government bodies have seen their council meetings postponed due to various disputes and legal reasons.
