KANDY ESALA PERAHERA UNDERWAY, SPECIAL TRAFFIC PLAN IN EFFECT

The annual Kandy Esala Perahera, organised by the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic underway, with the first Randoli Perahera taking to the streets today (4).

Sri Lanka Police have implemented a special security and traffic plan for the event.

This includes roadblocks, special security, vehicle and personal inspections, and a system for guiding tourists and managing parking.

A special traffic plan and alternative routes have been arranged for today:

All heavy vehicles travelling from Katugastota to Kandy will be directed from Mahaiyawa Junction along Tilakaratne Mawatha, entering the city at Police Junction.

Light vehicles from Katugastota should proceed along D.S. Senanayake Veediya, then Kande Veediya, and past the Meeramakkam Mosque before continuing along Tilakaratne Mawatha.

Vehicles leaving the city towards Katugastota can travel along Dalada Veediya, Yatinuwara Veediya, Kande Veediya, and D.S. Senanayake Veediya.
