UN HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL TO DISCUSS SRI LANKA AT 60TH SESSION

The United Nations Human Rights Council has announced that its 60th session will take place from 8 September to 8 October in Geneva, Switzerland.

The session will be opened at 10:00 AM on Monday, 8 September, with an address by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk.

The High Commissioner will hold interactive dialogues on the human rights situations in Myanmar and Sri Lanka under agenda item II.

The report on the human rights situation in Sri Lanka will be presented under the UN Human Rights Office report A/HRC/60/21.

Reports and verbal updates will also be presented on the human rights situations in Afghanistan, Sudan, Palestine, including East Jerusalem, and Syria.

During the session, 28 interactive dialogues are scheduled, along with five dedicated discussions on topics such as unilateral coercive measures, discrimination and violence against intersex people, and the rights of indigenous peoples.

At the conclusion of the session, the council will elect seven members to its Advisory Committee.
