Final rites are set to take place today (7) for those who lost their lives in the deadly bus accident on the Ella–Wellawaya road.
Yesterday (6) the bodies of ten municipal workers from Tangalle Urban Council were brought to the Town Hall, where relatives and a large number of local residents gathered to pay their respects.
Reporters from Hiru News noted that colleagues and members of the public attended to honour the victims.
A delegation of political representatives, including Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarassuriya, also visited the hall to pay tribute, after which senior Buddhist clergy conducted religious rites at the site.
The driver of the luxury SUV involved in the crash has been released on bail by the Bandarawela Magistrate’s Court. He is a resident of Buttala and was granted bail set at Rs. 1 million, following his court appearance.
