The 26th anniversary of the Gonagala massacre, in which 54 villagers from the Sinhala village of Column 31 in the Ampara District were killed by LTTE terrorists, was commemorated yesterday (18).
A memorial service was held at the monument built in the area, where relatives of the victims, organised by the "Organisation for the Victims of the Gonagala Massacre," lit lamps and remembered their loved ones.
The ceremony concluded with a sermon conducted by the Chief Incumbent of Gonagala Sri Sumangalarama, Venerable Ransegoda Siriwimala Thera, to bestow merit upon the deceased.
