While announcing the budget for 2026 yesterday (7), President Anura Kumara Dissanayake made a key statement regarding the provision of vehicles for Members of Parliament (MPs) and Ministers, firmly declaring an end to the vehicle permit system.
President Dissanayake stated that every Member of Parliament will be provided with a cab.
He clarified that Ministers, however, will not receive additional cabs as they are already entitled to vehicles through their respective ministries.
If a ministry does not currently possess a vehicle, one will be provided directly to the ministry, not the individual.
The President emphasised, “There will be no permits. The permit culture must end in Sri Lanka.”
