The Department of Meteorology issued a statement indicating that the Northeast Monsoon condition became established across the island.
Showers or thundershowers are possible at times today (10) in the Northern, North Central, Eastern, Central, Southern, and Uva provinces.
The statement notes that some places in the Northern, North Central, and Eastern provinces could receive heavy rain exceeding 100 mm.
Furthermore, some places in the Central and Uva provinces may experience moderately heavy rain of about 75 mm.
In the rest of the island, rain or thundershowers are possible at a few places after 1:00 PM, with some areas potentially receiving moderately heavy rain of about 75 mm.
It is reported that moderately strong winds (30–40 km/h) are possible at times in the Northern, North Central, and North Western provinces, the Trincomalee district, and the eastern slopes of the central hills.
Misty conditions may prevail during the early morning hours in some places in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Southern provinces.
The department requests the public to take necessary steps to minimise damage caused by temporary strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
