The floodgates of the Inginimitiya Reservoir in Puttalam were opened this morning (16).
The Irrigation Department stated that a water volume of 1,000 cubic feet per second has been released.
Therefore, the Irrigation Department advises the public living downstream of the reservoir to exercise caution.
Meanwhile, the Irrigation Engineer in charge of Huruluwewa, DasunThilakarathne, stated that several large tanks in the Galenbindunuwewa area, including the Huruluwewa Reservoir, are still overflowing due to the rainfall received in the Anuradhapura district.
He mentioned that the Huruluwewa Reservoir is currently overflowing at a rate of 379.97 cubic feet per second.
