Senior diplomat Eric Meyer is set to become the next United States Ambassador to Sri Lanka following a nomination by President Donald Trump.
Foreign reports indicate that the appointment comes as part of a transition in diplomatic leadership for the region.
The nominee serves as a career member of the U.S. Senior Foreign Service and currently holds a senior position within the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs.
His extensive experience includes coordinating American policy for several nations in the region, including India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh.
Previously, he held roles as acting ambassador and deputy chief of mission at the U.S. embassies in Norway and North Macedonia.
The vacancy for this position follows the departure of Julie Chung, who concluded nearly four years of service as the U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka yesterday.
Having served since 2022, her tenure ended as the new administration moves to fill the diplomatic post.
