Police life-saving units and Navy coastguard officers successfully rescued seven individuals who were swept away by a sudden current while bathing at Nilaveli beach in Trincomalee yesterday (04).
The group belonged to a party of 30 people visiting from Kegalle on a pleasure trip.
Following the rescue, officials provided emergency first aid to all victims.
Two members of the group required further medical attention and were transported to the Nilaveli Regional Hospital via a 1990 Suwa Seriya ambulance.
The swift intervention of the life-saving teams prevented a major tragedy during the afternoon incident.
