Having won 107 seats, TVK now needs the support of 11 more MLAs to form the government in Tamil Nadu, making a coalition arrangement almost certain. The party’s newly elected MLAs are set to meet in Chennai on Tuesday to elect C. Joseph Vijay as leader of the legislature party.
A call from Rahul Gandhi congratulating Vijay on the “spectacular result” has triggered speculation over possible Congress support. However, DMK sources said Rahul also spoke to Chief Minister M. K. Stalin and assured backing. TVK sources said multiple options are being explored, including support from allies of both DMK and AIADMK, even as parties assess their positions.
