Authorities took a father into custody at the Randiya Uyana housing complex in Modara following the circulation of a video showing the inhumane assault of his five-year-old daughter.
The suspect recorded the footage on a mobile phone and shared it on social media, which prompted a police investigation and his subsequent arrest.
The footage captured the young girl crying as she endured the physical abuse.
During the arrest, the suspect’s mother also faced detainment for allegedly obstructing police officers from performing their duties.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the child's mother travelled abroad a year ago, and the assault reportedly served as an act of retaliation for an incident involving the mother overseas.
Police noted that the victim had undergone head surgery only five days prior to the attack.
The 34-year-old suspect is reported to be heavily addicted to narcotics.
