Kotahena Police seized a stock of 63,000 medicinal drug capsules worth millions of rupees and apprehended three suspects along with a cab during a special operation at St. Lucia’s Street.
The raid took place on the morning of the 31st after police officers intercepted a suspicious vehicle traveling through the area.
Upon a detailed search of the cab, officials discovered the massive haul of capsules hidden cleverly within the vehicle.
The arrested individuals, aged 21, 31, and 35, are residents of the Wennappuwa and Kalpitiya areas. Authorities also took the vehicle used for the transport into police custody as part of the evidence.
Investigations continue to determine the origin and intended destination of the contraband, as well as to uncover the wider distribution network involved.
The suspects will face production before the court in due course.
