2000 PHIs deployed to inspect food safety during festive season

2000 Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) are deployed to investigate the sanitary conditions of all public and private institutions providing dry, ready-made, and cooked food during the festive season.

K.A.P. Boralessa, President of the Public Health Inspectors' Association of Sri Lanka, states that steps have been taken to inspect food production facilities, distribution vehicles, shops, restaurants, hotels, mobile and permanent weekly fairs, and roadside eateries where passenger buses stop for meals.

Action has also been taken to educate organizers on conducting New Year celebrations in a health-conscious manner. The Association President further notes that legal action will be taken to ban any New Year festivals organized in violation of health guidelines.
