The Railways Department announced the operation of several special train services to facilitate passengers travelling to their hometowns and returning for the upcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
According to the announcement, special trains will run on the following routes starting April 10, 2026:
Northern Railway Line:
·Colombo Fort to Anuradhapura: Scheduled to depart Fort at 6:40 AM on April 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19. These trains include two first-class reserved seating carriages.
·Kankesanthurai to Anuradhapura: Scheduled to depart Kankesanthurai at 6:00 AM on April 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19.
·The Rajarata Rajina train, which previously ran from Beliatta to Maho, will operate daily to Anuradhapura starting April 9.
·Office trains that usually run to Maho are extended to Anuradhapura only on April 10, 11, and 12.
Coastal Railway Line:
·Maradana to Matara: Scheduled to depart Maradana at 1:00 PM on April 10, 11, 12, 15, and 18.
·Maradana to Beliatta: Scheduled to depart Maradana at 4:40 PM on April 11 and 18.
·Matara / Beliatta to Maradana (Return): Several special trips will operate between April 10 and 19 at various times based on passenger demand.
