An official from the Haputale District Labour Office received a six-year prison sentence for accepting a bribe of Rs. 15,000 from a poultry farm owner in Wellawaya.
Colombo High Court Judge Mohammad Mihal delivered the verdict following a case filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.
The legal proceedings originated from a written complaint lodged on September 2, 2009.
After evaluating all presented evidence, the High Court Judge issued the ruling, which includes a six-year rigorous imprisonment term for each charge to be served concurrently.
Additionally, the official must pay a fine of Rs. 5,000 for each count and return the Rs. 15,000 taken as a bribe.
