Ambalangoda Police arrested a robbery gang allegedly directed by Gayan Manjula, a former member of the Rathgama Pradeshiya Sabha. Three youths aged 16, 17, and 18 were taken into custody, and they revealed details of the robberies during questioning.
The former local council member involved had been arrested with 'Ice' a few days prior and is currently in remand custody. Investigations revealed that under his guidance, furniture and equipment valued at approximately three million rupees were stolen from the home of a prison officer located near the councilor's residence in Akurala.
Acting on information received, police recovered the stolen items in the Galagoda and Hikkaduwa Kumarakanda areas. Some stolen goods were discovered at the home of a woman identified as the suspect's mistress, while a television set was found at the suspect’s legal wife's residence in Kumarakanda. A van belonging to the councilor, which was used to transport the stolen property, was also seized. The suspects are scheduled to be produced before the Balapitiya Magistrate's Court.
