Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama ordered today (27) that a lawyer held under detention orders for aiding and abetting the shooting of Ganemulla Sanjeewa be remanded until the 7th.
The suspect, identified as Tamara Kumari Abeýratne, appeared before the court today following her production by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Evidence revealed in court suggests the lawyer provided a copy of the Penal Code to another individual, Ishara Sewwandi, to conceal the pistol used to enter the court premises for the hit.
The CID originally arrested the lawyer on the night of October 28, 2025, in the Kadawatha area.
The primary incident occurred on February 19, 2025, when Ganemulla Sanjeewa was shot while inside the dock of Court No. 05 at the Hulftsdorp court complex.
While security forces apprehended the shooter on the same day, Ishara Sewwandi, who allegedly smuggled the firearm into the premises, was later arrested in Nepal by the CID while she was in hiding.
