A suspect was hospitalised with gunshot wounds after police opened fire when two individuals in custody attempted to escape.
According to the police, the incident occurred today (03) while Galgamuwa Police were escorting two suspects, arrested on drug-related charges, to a police jeep to be produced before court. The suspects had reportedly attempted to flee the premises during the transfer.
Police fired at one of the suspects to prevent the escape, and the injured individual was subsequently admitted to the Galgamuwa Base Hospital for treatment. The hospitalised suspect is a 32-year-old resident of the Galgamuwa area.
