Former SriLankan Airlines CEO Kapila Chandrasena granted bail

Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama ordered the release of former SriLankan Airlines CEO Kapila Chandrasena today (5).

He remained in remand custody over allegations of accepting a USD 2 million bribe during the procurement of Airbus aircraft.

The court granted bail set at Rs. 500,000 in cash and three personal bails of Rs. 10 million each.

Additionally, a travel ban was also imposed on the suspect.

President’s Counsel Rienzie Arsecularatne, representing the suspect, submitted the bail application when the case was called on the 28th.

Although officials from the Bribery Commission initially opposed the request, the Magistrate delivered the bail order today after reviewing arguments from both parties.

The Bribery Commission informed the court that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, former Aviation Minister Priyankara Jayaratne, and Willie Gamage received summons to provide statements regarding the ongoing investigation.
