Meteorology warns of continued heavy rains

The low-pressure area situated to the northeast of Sri Lanka continues to persist, according to a statement from the Department of Meteorology.

This system will likely move closer toward the north over the coming days.

The department expects current rainy conditions across the island to continue for the next few days due to the influence of this system.

Intermittent showers or thundershowers may occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Western, and Northern provinces, as well as in the Anuradhapura, Trincomalee, Galle, and Matara districts.

Elsewhere on the island, rain or thundershowers might develop after 1:00 p.m.

Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is anticipated in certain areas within the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Western, and Uva provinces, and the Ampara, Batticaloa, Galle, and Matara districts.
