The National Building Research Institute issued landslide early warnings for several divisional secretariat divisions in nine districts due to heavy rains.
This announcement remains valid from 4:00 pm today (12) until 4:00 pm tomorrow (13).
A level two amber warning is in effect for the Passara Divisional Secretariat Division in the Badulla District. Residents in this area must stay alert for signs of landslides and remain prepared to evacuate to safe locations if necessary.
Level one yellow warnings apply to several other districts.
These include Bandarawela in Badulla; Walallawita in Kalutara; and Udapalatha, Pathahewaheta, Yatinuwara, Ganga Ihala Korale, Akurana, Gangawata Korale, Doluwa, Pasbage Korale, and Panwila in the Kandy District.
In the Kegalle District, Aranayaka, Rambukkana, Mawanella, Kegalle, Bulathkohupitiya, and Yatiyantota are affected, along with Ridigama in the Kurunegala District.
Other areas under warning include Naula, Ambanganga Korale, and Rattota in the Matale District; Wellawaya and Badalkumbura in the Monaragala District; and Kalawana, Godakawela, and Ratnapura in the Ratnapura District.
The National Building Research Organisation urges the public to leave these areas immediately if they observe pre-landslide signs such as cracks in the ground, tilting trees or power lines, and the sudden appearance of water springs.
