A passenger train operating from Polgahawela to Kalutara South derailed between Kelaniya and Wanawasala railway stations, according to the Railway Department.
The train, identified as service number 507, reportedly experienced a derailment when one of its coaches left the tracks and overturned onto the railway line.
The department confirmed that the incident caused a partial obstruction on the main railway route, disrupting train services along the line.
It is further reported that passengers were inside the overturned carriage at the time of the incident.
However, authorities have stated that services on one of the tracks are still being operated while efforts continue to clear the affected section and restore normal operations.
