Ten people have been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital with minor injuries following a train derailment between Kelaniya and Wanawasala, police said.
The train, bearing number 507 and operating from Polgahawela to South Kalutara, derailed between Kelaniya and Wanawasala railway stations.
The Railway Department stated that one carriage of the derailed train overturned onto the track.
As a result, train operations on the main line have been disrupted.
Reports also indicate that passengers were inside the carriage that overturned at the time of the derailment.
The Railway Department further noted that while one track has been blocked due to the overturned carriage, train services are still operating on the remaining line.
