The Inter-University Students’ Federation remained at a house located in Malwana for a second consecutive night yesterday (15), which allegedly belongs to former Minister Basil Rajapaksa.
The occupation continued after discussions held with officials from the Ministry of Education reportedly failed.
The students say that the house and the land it is situated on should be handed over for public use.
The luxury residence, built on a 16-acre plot in Malwana and reportedly linked to former Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa, was previously taken over by the government during the government of good governance through legal proceedings.
In that case, authorities were unable to establish the rightful owner of the property.
Against this backdrop, representatives of the Inter-University Students’ Federation based at the University of Peradeniya, entered and occupied the property the day before yesterday.
