A total of 134 single-cab vehicles donated under the Indo–Sri Lanka Friendship Programme were officially handed over to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake this morning (25) at the Presidential Secretariat.
The vehicles are scheduled to be distributed among police stations in the Northern Province.
The donation by the Indian Government is worth nearly Rs. 300 million.
Speaking at the official handover ceremony, Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha stated that India would continue to provide such assistance and cooperation programmes to Sri Lanka while further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
In appreciation of India’s contribution to Sri Lanka’s law enforcement sector, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Attorney-at-Law Priyantha Weerasooriya presented a special commemorative token to the Indian High Commissioner.
The event was attended by Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala, Deputy Minister Sunil Watagala, Ministry Secretary Ravi Seneviratne, DIMO General Manager Rajeev Pandithage, officials from the Indian High Commission, and senior officers of the Sri Lanka Police.
