The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Welikada Police, who was arrested by the Colombo Central Crime Investigation Bureau over allegations of demanding bribes has been remanded until June 9.
He was arrested over allegations of demanding bribes of Rs. 300,000 each to release the passports of 19 Chinese nationals arrested in connection with an online scam, without producing them before court on the required date.
The order was issued today (28) by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama after the suspect was produced before court following his arrest by the Colombo Central Crime Investigation Bureau.
The remanded suspect is Chief Inspector Saman Jayasinghe, the OIC of Welikada Police.
