SL open to the world as a reliable partner, says PM

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya said Sri Lanka is an open and reliable partner committed to regional cooperation and international relations.

The Prime Minister made these remarks today (28) while attending the Sri Lanka-German Business Summit 2026 as the chief guest at the ITC Ratnadipa in Colombo.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the three-day summit — organised with the support of the Sri Lankan-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK Sri Lanka) and the German Embassy in Colombo — aims to promote Sri Lanka as an attractive destination for foreign investment, particularly in the maritime and supply chain sectors.

Addressing the summit, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of the long-standing partnership between Sri Lanka and Germany in areas such as tourism, trade, investment, technology transfer, and development cooperation.

She also noted that Germany’s contributions to vocational education and training, renewable energy, and economic transformation deserve recognition.

The Prime Minister stated that Sri Lanka is currently engaged in a broad reform process aimed at achieving macroeconomic stability and building a more competitive economic model.

She added that the government is implementing fiscal consolidation, structural adjustments, and governance reforms, while paying particular attention to the social impacts these changes may have on women and vulnerable communities.

Highlighting Sri Lanka’s strategic location in the Indian Ocean, skilled workforce, and improving investment climate, the Prime Minister invited the German business community to explore new partnerships with Sri Lanka.

German Ambassador to Sri Lanka and Maldives Felix Neumann, Chief Representative of AHK Sri Lanka Martin Klaus, government officials, and members of the business communities of both countries.
