The Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena today (03) issued notice to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), directing it to appear in court tomorrow (04) and present information regarding the health condition of former State Intelligence Service Chief Suresh Sallay, who is being detained under detention orders in connection with the Easter Sunday terror attacks.
The Magistrate issued the notice after considering a motion filed by President’s Counsel Shavindra Fernando, who appeared on behalf of Suresh Sallay, the third suspect in the case.
The defence counsel informed court that several medical reports prepared by the Judicial Medical Officer have been submitted regarding his client’s health condition.
Accordingly, he told court that his client is suffering from depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
He also requested that the court issue an order to ensure that the detainee is kept in an environment suitable for receiving psychiatric treatment.
The Magistrate further directed that the case be recalled tomorrow (04), noting that the prosecution must appear in court before any order can be issued, and instructed the Officer-in-Charge of the CID to be present on that date.
