The Irattaperiyakulam police arrested 7 suspect students following the circulation of a series of videos on social media showing a group of students brutally assaulting two other students while identifying themselves as the "Vavuniya Sigithi Pathalaya" or Vavuniya Junior Underworld. Police stated that the arrested suspects reside in the Irattaperiyakulam area and fall within the 14 to 17 age group. The two 15-year-old students who suffered the inhumane assault sustained serious injuries and currently receive treatment at the Vavuniya Hospital.
The arrested suspect students appeared before the Vavuniya Magistrate's Court yesterday. After considering the facts presented, the Magistrate's Court ordered the suspect students to be remanded to the Kebithigollewa Probation Home until the 10th of June. The Irattaperiyakulam police conduct further investigations into the incident.
