The Department of Meteorology issued a statement announcing that showers or thundershowers will occur from time to time today in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts. Heavy falls of about 100 millimetres are expected at some places within the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, alongside the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts.
The statement further noted that gusty winds up to 40 to 50 kilometres per hour will blow from time to time over the western slopes of the central hills, the Northern and North-Central provinces, and the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts. Fairly strong gusty winds up to 30 to 40 kilometres per hour will develop at times over the remaining areas of the island. The department urged the public to take necessary precautions to minimise damages caused by temporary strong winds and lightning activities during thundershowers.
