Eye clinic digitisation project launched at Seeduwa Vijaya Kumaratunga Hospital

Seeduwa Vijaya Kumaratunga Memorial Hospital's Eye Clinic Digitisation Project was formally opened to the public, under the patronage of former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga.

During the inauguration, held on Thursday (04), former President Kumaratunga visited and reviewed developments in the eye clinic wards. Attending the event, Health Minister Nalinda Jayatissa, pointed out that the government is committed to modernising healthcare service delivery across the country.

According to the Ministry of Health, the project, which is directly implemented under its oversight, targets to improve efficiency and quality of the national-level eye care services.

The initiative launched on a Rs. 3 million contribution from hospital board member Neel Umagiliya. The installation of the digital systems followed a six-month pilot programme, inclusive of a comprehensive staff training.

The new system digitises patient information, medical records, clinical reports, and prescriptions, helping to reduce waiting times and improve the speed and effectiveness of treatment. Services such as cataract surgery and diabetic retinopathy care are expected to benefit from enhanced accuracy and streamlined processes.

The project is part of a wider national effort, supported by the World Health Organisation, to digitalise Sri Lanka’s healthcare system.
