Paddy plants in cultivation fields turned yellow because farmers in the Pulasthigama area cannot apply fertilizer properly for cultivations. Farmers in the Abhayapura and Pulasthigama areas of the Lankapura Divisional Secretariat Division in the Polonnaruwa District face this issue.
Farmers point out that even the fertilizer promised by the government is unavailable, and even the fertilizer subsidy given to the farmer is not received properly, while villagers request that facilities be provided to obtain the required fertilizer urgently. They point out that a period between 17 to 30 days elapsed for the cultivation by now.
Farmers point out that although it was stated that fertilizer bought from the private sector by the government for fifteen thousand would be given to them for ten thousand two hundred, none of those promises were fulfilled so far. Farmers state that if this issue is not resolved urgently, their paddy fields will turn yellow on a large scale, and they note that an extent of nearly two hundred acres turned yellow in various places in this manner.
