The Court of Appeal has fixed for June 22 the further consideration of a petition filed by former State Intelligence Service officer, Colonel Kalum Maddumage, seeking an order preventing his arrest in connection with investigations into the Easter Sunday terror attacks.
The petition was taken up today before a Court of Appeal bench comprising President of the Court of Appeal Rohanta Abeysuriya and Judge Priyantha Fernando.
During proceedings, Deputy Solicitor General Suharshi Herath, appearing on behalf of the Attorney General, raised preliminary objections, arguing that the petition could not be maintained.
Submissions supporting the Attorney General’s preliminary objections were also made by President’s Counsel Upul Kumarapperuma, who has been named as a respondent in the petition.
Following the proceedings, the Court of Appeal ordered that the case be recalled on June 22 to hear submissions from the petitioner’s side regarding the preliminary objections.
