1,864 premises with mosquito larvae identified

The Ministry of Health and Mass Media says that out of 31,155 premises inspected during the second day (09) of the three-day national dengue mosquito control programme, 1,864 premises were found to contain mosquito larvae.

This national programme, which began on June 8 across MOH divisions in 14 districts, is scheduled to conclude today (10).

According to a detailed report issued by the National Dengue Control Unit of the Ministry, 8,069 locations inspected yesterday were identified as potential mosquito breeding sites.

It was found that more than half of inspected factories (61%), construction sites (55.4%), and religious places (51.5%) were at risk of mosquito breeding.

In addition, 44.7% of schools and 40.4% of government institutions were found to have a high risk of mosquito breeding.

During yesterday’s operations, 1,079 notices were issued to those maintaining mosquito breeding conditions, while legal action was taken against 711 individuals.

Meanwhile, during the two-day period (June 8–9), the programme covered 74 MOH divisions, inspecting a total of 62,351 premises.

Of these, 16,190 premises (26%) were identified as being at risk of mosquito breeding.

Most inspections were carried out in households, with 14,291 of the 57,008 homes inspected found to have mosquito breeding sites.

Overall, larvae were found in 3,948 premises over the two days, with the highest rates recorded in households (58%) and construction sites (22.4%).

Authorities also issued 2,244 notices for violations and initiated legal action against 1,500 individuals during the two-day operation.
