Police war heroes killed in the East commemorated

A commemoration ceremony was held today (11) at the police memorial near the Ampara Police Superintendent’s Office to honour police war heroes, marking 36 years since unarmed police officers were killed in the Eastern Province by LTTE terrorists.
Ampara Deputy Inspector General of Police Sujith Wedamulla attended the event as the chief guest.
Acting Officer-in-Charge of the Ampara Division Assistant Superintendent of Police Nuwan Dantanarayana, received the chief guest.
Speaking at the event, the Ampara Deputy Inspector General emphasised that the tragedy remains one of the most unforgettable incidents in the history of the police force.
Other officers present included Assistant Superintendent of Police (II) Bandara Dissanayake, ASP Maha Oya Sujeewa Priyantha Bandara, ASP Pottuvil M. Dayaratne, along with several other police officers.
The commemoration began with multi-religious observances, followed by the lowering of the police flag to half-mast by the Deputy Inspector General.
Parents and children of the fallen officers, laid flowers at the memorial to honour their loved ones.
Wreaths were then laid at the police memorial following a formal police salute, with the Deputy Inspector General paying tribute at the monument.
Senior police officers, including the Acting ASP of the Ampara Division, joined the event to pay their respects.
