Court to take up Yoshitha Rajapaksa's revision petition tomorrow

The Court of Appeal has ordered that the revision petition filed by Yoshitha Rajapaksa, seeking a ruling that the charge of “conspiracy” in the case filed against him under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act cannot be sustained, will be taken up for hearing tomorrow.

The petition will be heard before the bench comprising Justices Amal Ranaraja and Dr. Sumudu Premachandra.

During a previous hearing, counsel appearing for Yoshitha Rajapaksa, Attorney-at-Law Hafil Faris, informed the court that although his client and a woman named Daisy Forrest had been named as accused, the Attorney General had already discharged the said woman from the case.

He argued that, under such circumstances, continuing the charge of “conspiracy” against his client alone is contrary to the law.

However, Deputy Solicitor General Janaka Bandara maintained that the charge of conspiracy can be sustained even against a single accused.

Accordingly, the Court of Appeal has scheduled a full hearing on the matter for tomorrow.
