The Court of Appeal today (17) concluded proceedings on a petition filed by Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (SDIG) Varuna Jayasundara after the Attorney General informed the court that there is currently no decision to arrest him in connection with investigations into the Easter Sunday terror attacks.
The petition, which sought an order preventing his arrest over the matter, was taken up before a bench comprising Court of Appeal Judges Shashi Mahendran and Adithya Patabendige.
At a previous hearing, the court had instructed the Attorney General to explore the possibility of transferring the petitioner to another area.
Addressing the court today, the Deputy Solicitor General stated that the Inspector General of Police had already submitted the relevant recommendations to the National Police Commission.
Accordingly, the judges decided to halt further proceedings on the petition, noting that the Attorney General had given an undertaking to the court that no decision had been taken at this stage to arrest the petitioner.
