Six people have died in five separate road incidents reported from different parts of the country on June 17, the Police Media Spokesperson’s Office said.
The incidents were reported from Poonewa, Govindupura, Eravur, Bentota, and Kilinochchi police divisions.
In Poonewa, two people died after a lorry collided with a parked lorry on the A9 road and overturned, crushing passengers who were at the rear of the stationary vehicle.
In Ampara–Siyambalanduwa, a chain collision involving two motorcycles and a lorry left one young motorcyclist dead.
In Batticaloa–Trincomalee, a motorcycle skidded and collided with another bike, killing a 44-year-old woman.
In Bentota, a collision between a lorry and a motorcycle resulted in the death of a 37-year-old rider.
In Kilinochchi, a motorcyclist died after losing control and crashing into a tree on the A9 road.
Police are conducting further investigations into all incidents.
